Emma Videos

// July 9th, 2007 // No Comments » // Funny, life

This first video is why no baby food company is going to call us for a commercial.

In this second one, Emma is crawling… she figured that out the day before and realized she could go after cats. The weird part of this video is I actually say, “go git ‘er Emma.” Before the redneck Jason comes out, that would be interpreted as go get her Emma… I didn’t know I knew the word “Git” and “‘Er”. Nice.

Spinal Tap To Reunite

// April 25th, 2007 // No Comments » // Funny, life, Music & Entertainment

Spinal Tap Reuniting

How appropriate for these guys to reunite for an Al Gore event. If you saw his “documentary/remember me” movie (which I didn’t make it through myself.. I tried!) then you’ll know why I think Spinal Tap’s classic mockumentary makes this even funnier!!! (Please don’t bash me if you like Al Gore, I’m sure the Earth is changing as it has been for millions of years… I just don’t think he’s the “answer” nor the spokesman to get anything done, especially with a lame-behind documentary.)

NEW YORK (AP)- Jake Coyle:

Spinal Tap is back, and this time the band wants to help save the world from global warming.

The mock heavy metal group immortalized in the 1984 mockumentary, “This is Spinal Tap,” will reunite for a performance at Wembley Stadium in London as part of the Live Earth concerts scheduled worldwide for July 7.

The original members of Spinal Tap will be there: guitarist Nigel Tufnel (played by Christopher Guest), singer David St. Hubbins (Michael McKean) and bassist Derek Smalls (Harry Shearer). Rob Reiner, who both directed “This is Spinal Tap” and played the fake documentarian Marty DeBergi in the film, will also be in attendance.

A new 15-minute film directed by Reiner on the band’s reunion will also play at the opening night of the Tribeca Film Festival in New York on Wednesday. The slate for the opening gala, to be hosted by Al Gore, was previously announced, excepting the Reiner short.

The festival is to open with a showing of several global warming-themed short films produced by the SOS (Save Our Selves) campaign. SOS is also putting on the Live Earth concerts, to be held across seven continents.

Reiner spoke to The Associated Press on Tuesday to explain the reunion of Spinal Tap — a band always known more as a parody of rock `n roll excess than environmental awareness.

“They’re not that environmentally conscious, but they’ve heard of global warming,” said Reiner, whose other films include “When Harry Met Sally” and “Stand By Me.” “Nigel thought it was just because he was wearing too much clothing — that if he just took his jacket off it would be cooler.”

Spinal Tap has reunited several times since the film, but hasn’t for a number of years. For the band — whose last album was 1992′s “Break like the Wind” — the occasion warranted a new single: “Warmer Than Hell.”

Reiner provided a sneak peak at the lyrics: “The devil went to Devon, it felt like the fourth degree/ He said, `Is it hot in here, or is it only me?’”

The director said the new short film explains what the band has been doing with their lives lately. Nigel has been raising miniature horses to race, but can’t find jockeys small enough to ride them; David is now a hip-hop producer who also runs a colonic clinic; and Derek is in rehab for addiction to the Internet.

Reiner, 60, has for over 20 years worked with the National Resources Defense Council, an environmental action organization. Though the Spinal Tap reunion will be a lot of laughs, he hopes the SOS short films program and the Live Earth concerts have a substantial effect.

“What I think is going to be nice about this whole effort is there will be marching orders for people,” said Reiner. “Not only from a personal standpoint of what individuals can do in their lives, but a macro perspective with respect to the public sector and government.”

The Sweet Sound of Hustling Christian Music People…

GMA Music Week

Gospel Music Week has begun in Music City. I went to my first little seminar this morning, it was going to be about Leadership and how I, an independent person/label, can compete in todays market. I get there right on time, and sit down in my cozy little chair. I notice I’m the only one not dressed up… and I mean ‘DRESSED UP’. Everyone had on slacks and nice shirts, even some ties… not me, black t-shirt with ripped jeans and sandals.

The speaker gets up to talk and says “Welcome to Fundraising University”, my mind says “WHAT??????”, but those who know me, I sit quietly and think this may have something to do with leadership and maybe it’s just the first session. I don’t question things, especially in large group settings… so Leadership is coming… NOPE. At the break I was informed they switched rooms on me and I had just sat through 45 mins of how to raise money for non profit radio stations… ummmm…. ok.

Needless to say the first day was off to a weird start and I left. The music and hanging out with people I know happens on Monday… will keep you posted if I see or hear anything good. One of the bands on Tone Box Records, Kennebec, will be playing the indie impact showcase @ 12th and Porter on Monday at 4:30 pm. Come and check it out!

Anyone else floating around this weekend? Hit me up, we’ll drink coffee and eat! Isn’t that what these things are for?

Worst Cover Songs Ever?

// February 11th, 2007 // No Comments » // Funny, Music & Entertainment

Watching the Grammy’s tonight has pushed me to this post. It’s actually been building for the past week… I’ve heard a few songs in the past few weeks that made me cringe, mainly because they took something good and made it crap (in my opinion of course). However, tonight when the Police to the stage… I was happy. It was good. They were a great band and apparently still are. I remember the night that Puff Daddy was doing his partial cover of “Every Breath You Take” and how out of place/scared Sting looked. That drove me crazy!!! Here’s a rock/pop icon on stage with P-Diddy as a “side show”? Ok, I’m moving on…

Here’s my top 5 worst cover songs… let me hear yours!!! If you disagree with me, let me know and why!!! I’m all ears.

#5. Jack Ingram covering Hinder’s “Lips Of An Angel”.

This is one of the songs that got me rolling on this whole cover song kick. Hinder is a metal band and they can pull it off. I don’t know who Jack Ingram is, but his video was on the other day and it was a joke. Country music can not cover rock. It just doesn’t have the same attitude or feel… which moves us to #4.

#4. Mark Chestnut covering Aerosmith’s “I Don’t Want To Miss A Thing”.

Just not cool… I’m not a Diane Warren ballad kind of guy, but I dug this Aerosmith song and I’m glad they were chosen to do the song… THEY WERE CHOSEN… not dude.

#3. Kid Rock covering Bad Company’s “Feel Like Makin’ Love”.

Another bad cover… nice try… but really really really annoying. This is one of those songs you just don’t cover… kind of like what Rascal Flats tried to do on the Grammy’s tonight… sing the Eagles (which was horid, and yes I know it’s not a true cover, but it’s probably the only way they were getting to play tonight… At least they are keeping the Autotune employees still employed.)

#2. Sheryl Crow covering Guns And Roses’ “Sweet Child Of Mine”.

I like Sheryl Crow a lot.. and I’ve heard she’s been running around our town a bit lately… so if I run into you Sheryl, know that I have love for your music and you… just not this cover. It’s just another song that was cool the first time… actually still is.

#1. Brooks and Dunn covering John Waite’s “Missing You”.

This is just not right for me. People who know me well, know that “Missing You” is my absolute favorite song of all time. Why? I don’t know , I’ve just always loved it and still do when I catch it on the radio… rarely. I think I actually got mad the first time I heard this cover… please don’t make fun of me.

This list is my top 5… I think it has a lot to do with messing with something I liked already! Except the Hinder song.. not a fan of it, but the cover was just really bad!!!!!! Please know that I left off some really bad covers… I know I did. I figured I could start the list and if you guys want to jump in, go for it!

Enjoy the Grammy’s… well…. try too.

My Punk Rock Girl

// December 13th, 2006 // No Comments » // Funny, life, Music & Entertainment

Today I was working on some punk cues and was doing some “listening research”. I went through the classics like The Clash, The Sex Pistols, The Damned, The Ramones… and of course, I thought about my daughter and how she would totally hate this stuff… so I gave her a mohawk and she gave me the classic punk photo that I hoped to get.

and of course I got a good one…

Faith Hill's Meltdown A Joke..

// November 7th, 2006 // No Comments » // Funny, life, Music & Entertainment

I’m gonna give this one to her, she’s always been a “class” act around Nashville. She says it was a joke, so… she can have this one. It was a joke.

From Yahoo! Entertainment:

Faith Hill insists she’s no Kanye West. The country music superstar says she was just joking when cameras showed her screaming “WHAT?” in apparent anger when she lost the female vocalist of the year award to newcomer Carrie Underwood at the Country Music Association Awards on Monday night in Nashville.

“The idea that I would act disrespectful towards a fellow musician is unimaginable to me,” Hill said in a statement. “For this to become a focus of attention given the talent gathered is utterly ridiculous. Carrie is a talented and deserving Female Vocalist of The Year.”

Media outlets and blogs zeroed in on Hill’s reaction after Underwood’s name was announced at the ceremony. While other nominees — Sara Evans, Gretchen Wilson, Martina McBride — gave the typical gracious loser smile, Hill, who was standing backstage, turned to the camera and shouted “WHAT?”

Although her voice could not be heard, it was clear from her lips what she said. She looked visibly upset and then it looked as if she was storming off. The incident has been replayed endlessly on sites like YouTube.com.

However, Hill said it was all a joke, and her manager, Gary Borman, echoed that: “I’ve worked with Faith for many years now and the idea that she would ever insult or undermine another artist, let alone another human being’s success is absolutely preposterous. Those who know her know that she’s incapable of such actions,” he said in a statement.

“She was being playful while the nominations were being read and playful after.”

Underwood also didn’t take it seriously, according to her publicist, Jessie Schmidt, who said that Hill spoke to Underwood after the show and that the two were fine.

Underwood, the 2005 “American Idol” champ, has become a triple platinum success since releasing her debut album late last year. Hill is a longtime darling of country music with crossover pop appeal.

This is the second time in less than a week that an awards show loss has resulted in an (apparent) on-camera freakout by a loser. Last week, Kanye West stormed the stage at the MTV Europe Music Awards and interrupted the speech of the winners, claiming his video deserved the honor.
