First up is Rod Price, legendary guitarist from Foghat. He’s doing what he loves and that’s playing the blues.

In honor of my typo-blunder on Twitter yesterday (Thursday) I’m giving you a band called Ironweed. Get it? iron-WEED? Ok, nevermind. It was an honest mistake and I do not partake. This is pretty much in your face rock, sometimes it’s just good to let it rock.

Mark Kano – Walking On Broadway

// March 1st, 2009 // No Comments » // Music & Entertainment

Mark Kano

I’ve met a lot of creative, artistic, music and just plain cool people on twitter. A few weeks back I met an amazing photographer named Kellie Kano. We sent a few messages back and forth and then some how I discover that her husband is a guy named Mark Kano. Mark Kano was/is the lead singer for a band that I dig called Athenaeum. Many of you will remember Athenaeum from a hit they had back in the 90′s called “What I Didn’t Know”… one of my favorite songs still.

Mark has a new CD that is amazing. I’m not saying this because he’s now my friend on Facebook… I really dig this record. I think the release and timing are perfect and truly believe you will hear some of these tracks popping up soon. Mark’s vocals are very distinct and you know it well after only hearing him once.

The opening track and album title is Walking On Broadway. This is your song of summer. When you hear it you will want to roll down the windows and drive fast even if it’s supposed to snow tomorrow! Another notable track is Calling Saturn… I absolutely love the drum track on this one, that along with the rhythmic guitar in the verse sells this songs hard. My other favorites are the ballad-’y’ tracks Telling You I Love You & Baby I’m Your Man.

Please do yourself a favor and check out this album. I’ve been listening for a few days now and just can’t cut it off!

Oasis Releases Short Film With NYC Street Musicians

// January 14th, 2009 // No Comments » // Music & Entertainment

Absolutely great video/short from Oasis.  Last fall Oasis went to NYC to promote their new album and in the process leaked some tracks to selected street musicians.  This short documentary covers the practicing and performing of street musicians in NYC.

Very cool.

You Only Get One Song!

// January 13th, 2009 // No Comments » // life, Music & Entertainment

This thought came up today while searching for one song.  Yes, one song.  I filled out a survey or something and they emailed me a coupon for a free song.  It was on puretracks.com – If you use them, then let me know and I’ll pass this code to you!  First come, first get.

So, think about it.  If you could only download one song ever, what would it be?  I posed this question on Twitter and Facebook and here are some quick responses.

  • Billy Joel : Piano Man
  • Queen : Somebody To Love
  • Louis Armstrong : What A Wonderful World
  • Dishwalla : Counting Blue Cars
  • Marty Robins : El Paso
  • Mercy Me : I Can Only Imagine
  • Frank Sinatra : Fly Me To The Moon

So chime in.  What’s your one song you can’t live without?  For me, I admit.  I haven’t been able to do it yet.  Too many!!! I will though… just let me think.

The Top 50 Albums of 2008 : $5 Each

// January 3rd, 2009 // No Comments » // Music & Entertainment

amazonmp3logoYup. Amazon is featuring their top 50 albums of 2008 and are inviting you to explore them all for $5 each. I’m not usually a sucker for sales, but there are some great albums available for only $5. Pretty Insane.

Definitely Check this one out… Amazon’s MP3 store is quickly gaining grounds on iTunes and I personally have bought many tracks from Amazon lately just because of the selection and cheaper price.

Make sure you check out Radiohead, Bon Iver, Snow Patrol, Fleet Foxes and one of my fave’s Rise Against… Check them out here.

Top 10 Albums Of 2008 That Didn't Come Out In 2008

// December 9th, 2008 // No Comments » // Music & Entertainment

Yeah, it’s weird. I know. Since it’s typical to do a top 10 list for each year I decided to change it up a bit… Here’s the deal- none of these albums came out in 2008 but are on my top 10 list of the ones I listened to in 2008. Confused yet?

10.  Led Zeppelin – Led Zeppelin IV

9.   U2 – Joshua Tree

8.   Bob Marley & The Wailers – Legend

7.   The Beatles – The White Album

6.   Guns N’ Roses – Appetite For Destruction

5.   Beastie Boys – License To Ill

4.   Foo Fighters – Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace

3.   Pixies – Surfer Rosa & Come On Pilgrim (duel set)

2.   Michael Jackson – Thriller

Michael wouldn’t let me embed his video- but here’s a link to Youtube.

1.   Nirvana – Nevermind

There you have it.  That’s my every day list I’d say.  Yes, go ahead and judge me– it’s ok, I probably don’t like everything that you do! But that is the joy of it, right? Those artists are in my playlists all the time- usually mixed up with some new artists.  Maybe I’ll compile my favorite tracks of 2008 at some point… maybe.

What about you?  What are your favorite albums that didn’t come out in 2008?

Wired.com and Tone Box Digital

// December 7th, 2008 // No Comments » // Music & Entertainment, Technology

We are a few days into this competition and Tone Box is getting some great exposure and I’ve had some great inquiries from artists and labels. The voting? Well, we are still way behind. The others have taken way off from us. I learned from Wired last week that there was a little “glitch” in the voting system and they are very aware of it.

So what do we do? Nothing. We are going to keep voting and doing this thing with integrity. Tone Box Digital and myself are unwilling to find a way to “beat the system”. We’ve received over a 1000 votes from fans and friends and we are super excited to know we have support in all we do.

What can you do? Keep voting. Spread the word and let’s find a way to win by true votes by the people. Over the next two weeks we have two newsletters going out and a possible feature on a very large music site- This will be more great exposure- it doesn’t mean votes and it doesn’t mean winning but it does mean we are spreading the Tone Box model.

If you are spreading the word, I appreciate all you are doing.  Please make sure you join our Facebook group: “I Voted For Tone Box Digital @ Wired.com“.  Share on the wall how you are spreading the word and you could get a $30 gift card to iTunes, Amazon.com or Starbucks.

Thanks again for all you guys are doing!!!
