Free Music Friday: Garage & Pop & Alt, Oh My!

// November 13th, 2008 // No Comments » // Totally Free Music!

Got some good stuff this week!  Some garage rock, pop/rock and modern/alt rock… Enjoy it!

Prima Donna is clearly inspired by the early punk of groups such as X-Ray Specs, the Damned, and the Sex Pistols as well as ‘70s glitter such as Mott the Hoople and David Bowie, the group’s sharp ‘n’ concise songwriting sidesteps any notions of the group being ‘retro.’ How retro can a group be if their average age is 22?

War Tapes is a Los Angeles 4-piece that successfully blends the attitude and edge of today’s post-hard-core scene with an appealing nod to 80’s new-wave and post-punk. All the while, War Tapes demonstrate a knack for creating huge hooks, turbulent soundscapes, and fist pumping, heart breaking sing-a-long choruses.

Tim Mahoney has crafted one great pop/rock track…  It’s familiar sounding as many singer/songwriter/rock guys are- but it’s done well.  The chorus makes you want to get in your car and drive to the beach.  Cheesy sounding I know but when you hear it you’ll know what I mean.

Free Music Friday – NYC Edition

// November 7th, 2008 // No Comments » // Music & Entertainment, Totally Free Music!

I’m in NYC this morning getting ready to film a short piece about Tone Box Digital for Wired.com.  It’s a bit gloomy up here but there is something about this city I like…  However, it’s Friday and I didn’t want to miss the second edition of Free Music Friday!  I had some requests this week for some acoustic music and country…  It’s a bit on the alt side of both genres, hope that works… What’s next week?

Yes, this is a spin off of Totally Free Music Tuesday. Except it’s not Tuesday- it’s Friday. I’m going to try my hardest to make this a weekly thing- if I get slack feel free to call my mom and let her know or just email me and say “Hey, I want some free music!”. Next is Dragonette with the incredibly catchy and rump-bumpin beat that is “I Get Around”. It’s a pop/alt track with some heavy dance influence. Not my usual but this caught my ear.

Last for your weekend fix is Deltron 3030 featuring Del The Funky Homosapien and Dan the Automator. This is not a new album but it’s just hit the digital world. It’s old school hip-hop/rap- good stuff to rip with while driving.

Totally Free Music Tuesday!!! I Told You It Was Coming Back!

// December 10th, 2007 // No Comments » // Totally Free Music!

It took a little longer than I wanted but it’s back. Totally free music Tuesdays. I have so much indie music built up it that it wouldn’t be fair to just put it all on here in one day. I’m gonna start with three tracks this week and work my way through with 3 or 4 until I get caught up.

I’ve encountered a ton of new music and from all different genres, so these are across the board.

Enjoy!

This track is from a compilation album put together by the amazing Natalie Portman, it’s a benefit compilation for a leading international organization providing financial services to the world’s lowest-income entrepreneurs called FINCA… much like KIVA you’ve read about on here before.

Totally Free Music Tuesday : Bring The Rock (and some alt)

// August 21st, 2007 // No Comments » // Music & Entertainment, Totally Free Music!

Here’s a couple of rock tracks that I found worthy to share. The first band in from Canada, eh. The band is called Tin Foil Phoenix and the track is called “Not How The West Was Won”.

The second track isn’t really that rock, but maybe more alt/rock. Definitely has the 80′s feel with some modern rock thrown in to make it a little more up to date. Pretty cool track. The band is The Lord Henry and the track is called “Fire On 42 Street”.

// August 14th, 2007 // No Comments » // Music & Entertainment, Totally Free Music!

After taking a week or two off from the blog world, I’m kicking it back into gear. Because of the hiatus, I figured I’d hook you up with 4 tracks this week instead of the usual 2. The first track is from the alternative world and a band called The Real Tuesday Weld. Cool laid back track called “Last Words”.

Finally, Matt Nathanson’s single “Gone”. This is listed as Alternative/Pop, I’m going to relist this as Pop Rock. That’s not a bad thing. The tracks feels and sounds great, most people know I’m a pop rock junkie so this was an obvious choice to include!

Totally Free Music Tuesday : Jazz Jazz Jazz

// July 17th, 2007 // No Comments » // Totally Free Music!

I know it’s late, but it’s still Tuesday. Thank you for the reminder emails! It’s all good, I like free music too. Here’s a couple of tracks, kind of random but cool vibe. My buddy Steve King has a jazz album coming out in a few weeks that is smoking and it’s been stuck in my head for a few weeks so I thought I hit you all with a bit of Jazz.

The first track really feels like Morphine, which was my ringback tone for a while (Buena a great track from Morphine), the one where everyone wanted to know “Who was that?”. Now you know.
