// December 19th, 2009 // No Comments » // Totally Free Music!

First off, apologies that Free Music Friday disappeared for a a month or two.  Please notice the tab up top!  You’re one click access to all the free music posts from my blog…  easier to find now.

Wanted to share some cool new indie music that I’ve ran across lately.  Download.  Enjoy.  Support Indie Music.  Simple right?

First up is Amy Millan of Broken Social Scene fame… this is her second full length and rides the folk/alternative roads. Very cool voice and easy to enjoy.

Just to stay in the same folk/alt genre I give you Sharon Lang. She has the shy girl voice that reminds of early Juliana Hatfield. Very innocent but with plenty of depth. Cool, simple track.

Free Music Friday : You Name It

// August 21st, 2009 // No Comments » // Totally Free Music!

It’s been a long week. I’ve been sick, pulled my back out (yes, I’m older than you think) and can’t get caught up with all the work I need to get done… so sad, eh? Nope! Friday is here and it’s time for free music so it’s all good.

Also had a few requests to link to the band’s website/myspace pages… done (when possible).

It’s been one of those up and down weeks like Emo music… it’s evil, it’s awesome.. whatever. This is from a compilation called Emo Is Awesome Emo Is Evil 2. The band is Sounds Like Violence and the track is “You Give Me Heartattacks”.

So I saw this release by Andrew W.K. and thought this should be loud, off the wall anthems and decent… WRONG. Let’s talk about classical/Jazz improvisations. No joke, this guy is a classically trained musician and shows his skills on his first solo release on his new imprint label. Well done A.W.K.

Found this track and thought it started nice… then heard the soulful raw voice of J. Tillman pop out in front of the mix and knew I had to share. It’s folky alternative and very hard to describe. It’s got a lot of depth and well.. just listen.

If you have a band with the word jetpacks in it you automatically get included on here. Introducing We Were Promised Jetpacks and their profound song title “Ships With Holes Will Sink”. I’m not making fun, you know I like it a little bit to include it! Indie rock with a little bit of angst thrown in.. enjoy.

Free Music Friday – Drive By Friday

// April 24th, 2009 // No Comments » // Music & Entertainment, Totally Free Music!

I’m looking for the rock because I’m in that mood.  Spring time has arrived and we all need good music to listen to loud while we drive!  Enjoy and rock the weekend.

First up is a band that has an old school Black Sabbath meets early Soundgarden (remember Loud Love?!) sound. The grunge influence is there as well which isn’t surprising since this band is fronted by Van Conner formerly of the Screaming Trees (one of my all time favorite bands from the West coast!). Great track.

As I was finishing this blog post, I thought I would browse one more time and found this gem. Really like the feel of this band- it’s a little bit close to the All American Rejects pop/punk/rock but it still grabbed me, so here it is to grab you. Enjoy!

Free Music Friday : Goodbye February

// February 26th, 2009 // No Comments » // Totally Free Music!

First off, goodbye February! Hello, March. My birthday month.. woohoo.

Free Music Friday is getting fun, I had an inbox full of indie labels/bands wanting to get on. That means you guys are reading and downloading!!! Very cool, glad to share new music with you all. As always, if you hear of some cool music please share!!!

First this week is a tex-mex, Beatles’ infused harmony alt band called The Krayolas. I’m really digging this track, it’s fresh and just feels good. The title track (not this mp3) of this album is also one of my favorites on this album, Long Leaf Pine.

For the AAA lovers, the band Kentucky Nightmare has nailed this track. It’s got the slow groove you would love from Wilco, the edge you’d find from Steve Earle and maybe a little of that Cracker twang. Great track.

Free Music Friday : "It's Friday" Edition

// December 19th, 2008 // No Comments » // Totally Free Music!

Nope.  No snazzy titles this week… just “It’s Friday”.  It’s been a crazy few weeks and I haven’t had a chance to really scope out new music as much as I would like.  Even more so, find good free music to give you guys.  I do apologize and most likely will miss next Friday..  Not sure yet, maybe I’ll surprise you with an end of the year wrap up!  We’ll See.

This week is a mixed bag.  Not saying these are all great, but knowing we all have different tastes in music I wanted to put up some options!  Enjoy.

First up is a band that walks the Shoegazer style of Pavement & Sonic Youth… The band is called Light Sleepers and I do dig this track!

Free Music Friday: Garage & Pop & Alt, Oh My!

// November 13th, 2008 // No Comments » // Totally Free Music!

Got some good stuff this week!  Some garage rock, pop/rock and modern/alt rock… Enjoy it!

Prima Donna is clearly inspired by the early punk of groups such as X-Ray Specs, the Damned, and the Sex Pistols as well as ‘70s glitter such as Mott the Hoople and David Bowie, the group’s sharp ‘n’ concise songwriting sidesteps any notions of the group being ‘retro.’ How retro can a group be if their average age is 22?

War Tapes is a Los Angeles 4-piece that successfully blends the attitude and edge of today’s post-hard-core scene with an appealing nod to 80’s new-wave and post-punk. All the while, War Tapes demonstrate a knack for creating huge hooks, turbulent soundscapes, and fist pumping, heart breaking sing-a-long choruses.

Tim Mahoney has crafted one great pop/rock track…  It’s familiar sounding as many singer/songwriter/rock guys are- but it’s done well.  The chorus makes you want to get in your car and drive to the beach.  Cheesy sounding I know but when you hear it you’ll know what I mean.
