Free Music Is Back… Again!

// May 2nd, 2010 // No Comments » // Music & Entertainment, Totally Free Music!

It’s been 4 months since my last ‘Free Music Friday’ post. A long time, eh? I think the problem was the expectation to discover and write a post every Friday. So, the solution? No expectations. I’ll look for new music and when I find some that I want to share, I’ll share it. Sound Good?

This first band is called Magic Bullets. Very pop-alt sounding and would be a great fit for the Sirius station Alt-Nation. Album hits in June.

Next band is called MoneyBrother… another alt-pop band. The funny thing about the ‘new’ alt-pop bands is that it’s the 70 & 80′s mashed up all over again. It’s not a bad thing but the old school influence is definitely there.

Lastly, The Mommyheads. A great band with some great melodies and an awesome alt-pop feel. This album hits May 18th.

Free Music Friday : Burgers For Lunch Edition

// August 28th, 2009 // No Comments » // Totally Free Music!

Yeah, I know. I’m running out of “edition” titles. Today, I’m eating at Poe’s Tavern. Hands down the best burger I’ve ever had. If you are ever in Charleston, SC you owe it to yourself to head out to Sullivan’s Island and get a taste. They have great fish tacos as well!!!

Also today, I have a very cool track from Peter Bradley Adams. This is off his new album Traces coming out September 22. I featured Peter earlier this year (maybe last year) and I got more comments about his music than any other… ever. So I’m excited to share with you this great new track called “For You”. Thanks to Sarathan Records for hooking us up with this. Sarathan Records is also the home of War Tapes another band we featured last fall who I’ve heard quite a bit on satellite radio lately.

Next is a band called Moving Mountains. The album “Pneuma” is a collision of emo-rock glory, math-y dynamics, waves of complex melody and epic atmospherics… the track 8105 encompasses all this and more.

The Growlers tap the raspy old school rock vocal style of Bob Dylan while overlaying them on the smooth guitar-esque riff style of Chris Isaak and The Doors… I know, two different worlds. But this is classic and good stuff. Kick back and enjoy…

And finally we have a solo piece from Mac Powell the vocals behind Third Day. This is from a compilation called The Daraja Children’s Choir of Africa. Great story about kids and hope and sharing… read about it here.

Free Music Friday : You Name It

// August 21st, 2009 // No Comments » // Totally Free Music!

It’s been a long week. I’ve been sick, pulled my back out (yes, I’m older than you think) and can’t get caught up with all the work I need to get done… so sad, eh? Nope! Friday is here and it’s time for free music so it’s all good.

Also had a few requests to link to the band’s website/myspace pages… done (when possible).

It’s been one of those up and down weeks like Emo music… it’s evil, it’s awesome.. whatever. This is from a compilation called Emo Is Awesome Emo Is Evil 2. The band is Sounds Like Violence and the track is “You Give Me Heartattacks”.

So I saw this release by Andrew W.K. and thought this should be loud, off the wall anthems and decent… WRONG. Let’s talk about classical/Jazz improvisations. No joke, this guy is a classically trained musician and shows his skills on his first solo release on his new imprint label. Well done A.W.K.

Found this track and thought it started nice… then heard the soulful raw voice of J. Tillman pop out in front of the mix and knew I had to share. It’s folky alternative and very hard to describe. It’s got a lot of depth and well.. just listen.

If you have a band with the word jetpacks in it you automatically get included on here. Introducing We Were Promised Jetpacks and their profound song title “Ships With Holes Will Sink”. I’m not making fun, you know I like it a little bit to include it! Indie rock with a little bit of angst thrown in.. enjoy.

Free Music Friday : Heading To Atlanta Edition

// August 14th, 2009 // No Comments » // Totally Free Music!

I had no clever name for this week’s Free Music Friday and I’m heading to Atlanta this weekend with four of my good friends. We’ve decided to all have a mustache for the trip.. why? I don’t know. Bonus track at the bottom in honor of the ‘stache. On with the music.

I’m an absolute fan of this band right off the bat. Any Day Parade (from their own description) is Swaggering Jangly Punky Alt. Country — I couldn’t have said it better myself. I’ll have more from these guys in a few weeks.

Free Music Friday : Proud Of Myself

// August 7th, 2009 // No Comments » // Totally Free Music!

Checking in with some new tunes.  As usual it’s a mix of stuff! I like this mix of tracks so that is why I’m proud of myself. Are you proud of me? It’s cool. Enjoy!

Andy Yorke is a great singer/songwriter who has resurfaced after leaving the band Unbelievable Truth in 2000. He walked away from music vowing to never return… however the music had other plans.

Free Music Friday : Pronto, Shame and Faunts

Secondly we have a real rock and roll band… one description said it was too soft for hard rockers and metal heads but too hard for hip indie folks. I say it’s just right. Check out the Shame Club.
