Free Music Is Back… Again!

It’s been 4 months since my last ‘Free Music Friday’ post. A long time, eh? I think the problem was the expectation to discover and write a post every Friday. So, the solution? No expectations. I’ll look for new music and when I find some that I want to share, I’ll share it. Sound Good? This first band is called Magic Bullets. Very pop-alt sounding and would be a great fit for the Sirius station Alt-Nation. Album hits in June. Magic Bullets “Lying Around” (mp3) from “Magic Bullets” (Mon Amie Records) More On This Album Next band is called MoneyBrother… another alt-pop band. The funny thing about the ‘new’ alt-pop bands is that it’s the 70 & 80’s mashed up all over again. It’s not a bad thing but the old school influence is definitely there. Moneybrother “Born Under a Bad Sign” (mp3) from “Real Control” (Bladen County Records) Buy at iTunes Music Store Buy at Amazon MP3 More On This Album Lastly, The Mommyheads. A great band with some great melodies and an awesome alt-pop feel. This album hits May 18th. The Mommyheads “Worm” (mp3) from “Flying Suit” (Dromedary Records) More On This...

Free Music Friday – End Of The Year Edition

First off, apologies that Free Music Friday disappeared for a a month or two.  Please notice the tab up top!  You’re one click access to all the free music posts from my blog…  easier to find now. Wanted to share some cool new indie music that I’ve ran across lately.  Download.  Enjoy.  Support Indie Music.  Simple right? First up is Amy Millan of Broken Social Scene fame… this is her second full length and rides the folk/alternative roads. Very cool voice and easy to enjoy. Amy Millan “Bruised Ghosts” (mp3) from “Masters of the Burial” (Arts & Crafts) Buy at Rhapsody Buy at Napster Stream from Rhapsody Buy at Amazon MP3 More On This Album Just to stay in the same folk/alt genre I give you Sharon Lang. She has the shy girl voice that reminds of early Juliana Hatfield. Very innocent but with plenty of depth. Cool, simple track. Sharon Lang “Name In A Color” (mp3) from “Lovers and Thieves” (Per Capita Records) Buy at iTunes Music Store Buy at Rhapsody Buy at Napster Stream from Rhapsody Buy at Amazon MP3 More On This Album From the first note played you know Late Night Condition is all about the punk-pop scene. Simple pop rock is all you need sometimes… Late Night Condition “Saviour” (mp3) from “Give & Take” (Deep Elm) Buy at iTunes Music Store Buy at Rhapsody Buy at Napster Stream from Rhapsody Buy at Amazon MP3 More On This Album The Kentucky Nightmare is a great little AAA/Alt Country band that I just like. Free Music Friday : You Name It

It’s been a long week. I’ve been sick, pulled my back out (yes, I’m older than you think) and can’t get caught up with all the work I need to get done… so sad, eh? Nope! Friday is here and it’s time for free music so it’s all good. Also had a few requests to link to the band’s website/myspace pages… done (when possible). It’s been one of those up and down weeks like Emo music… it’s evil, it’s awesome.. whatever. This is from a compilation called Emo Is Awesome Emo Is Evil 2. The band is Sounds Like Violence and the track is “You Give Me Heartattacks”. Sounds Like Violence “You Give Me Heartattacks” (mp3) from “Emo Is Awesome Emo Is Evil 2” (Deep Elm) Buy at Deep Elm Records Buy at iTunes Music Store Buy at eMusic Buy at Rhapsody Buy at Napster Stream from Rhapsody Buy at Puretracks Buy at Amazon MP3 Buy at appliedSB (Groupietunes) Buy at DownloadPunk Buy at mTraks More On This Album So I saw this release by Andrew W.K. and thought this should be loud, off the wall anthems and decent… WRONG. Let’s talk about classical/Jazz improvisations. No joke, this guy is a classically trained musician and shows his skills on his first solo release on his new imprint label. Well done A.W.K. Andrew W.K. “Begin the Engine” (mp3) from “55 Cadillac” (Skyscraper Music Maker) More On This Album Found this track and thought it started nice… then heard the soulful raw voice of J. Tillman pop out in front of the mix and knew I had to share. It’s folky...

Free Music Friday : Heading To Atlanta Edition

I had no clever name for this week’s Free Music Friday and I’m heading to Atlanta this weekend with four of my good friends. We’ve decided to all have a mustache for the trip.. why? I don’t know. Bonus track at the bottom in honor of the ‘stache. On with the music. I’m an absolute fan of this band right off the bat. Any Day Parade (from their own description) is Swaggering Jangly Punky Alt. Country — I couldn’t have said it better myself. I’ll have more from these guys in a few weeks. Any Day Parade “Broken Lamps” (mp3) from “Broken Lamps” (Mint 400 Records) More On This Album Between The Trees is another new band I’ve yet to learn a whole lot about. The production is clean pop/punk with some heavy focus on piano and melodies… cool track. Between The Trees “White Lines & Red Lights” (mp3) from “The Story and The Song” (Bonded Records, Inc) Buy at iTunes Music Store Buy at eMusic Buy at Napster Buy at Rhapsody Stream from Rhapsody Buy at Puretracks Buy at Amazon MP3 Buy at appliedSB (Groupietunes) Buy at mTraks More On This Album Straight off the indie turnpike is a band called Fairmont. Free Music Friday : Proud Of Myself

Checking in with some new tunes.  As usual it’s a mix of stuff! I like this mix of tracks so that is why I’m proud of myself. Are you proud of me? It’s cool. Enjoy! Andy Yorke is a great singer/songwriter who has resurfaced after leaving the band Unbelievable Truth in 2000. He walked away from music vowing to never return… however the music had other plans. Andy Yorke “Rise and Fall” (mp3) from “Simple” (Chocolate Lab Records) Buy at iTunes Music Store Buy at Rhapsody Buy at Napster Stream from Rhapsody Buy at Puretracks Buy at mTraks More On This Album And to continue to show my weak spot for Norwegian girl bands this week I’ve got a new one called Sissy Wish. Really don’t know a lot about them but the track is cool. Sissy Wish “DWTS” (mp3) from “Beauties Never Die” (Afternoon Records) Buy at iTunes Music Store Buy at Rhapsody Buy at Napster Stream from Rhapsody More On This Album CYNE is just that hip/hop that flows, feels good and doesn’t beat you down. Very cool track that has potential to break the scene. CYNE “Pretty Apollo” (mp3) from “Water For Mars” (Hometapes) Buy at iTunes Music Store More On This Album This track from Men Without Pants has been out for over two years but is starting to surface on some of the indie stations. Very catchy song. Men Without Pants “And The Girls Go” (mp3) from “Men Without Pants” (Shelly Bay Music LLC) Buy at iTunes Music Store Buy at eMusic Buy at Rhapsody Buy at Napster Stream from Rhapsody Buy at Puretracks...
